Training Offered Within The County

Adult volunteers are at the heart of Scouting, and we hope that you will get every bit as much out of it as you put in. Scouting is not only about young people, but also about the development of adults within the Movement.

To support adults in Scouting, the Association provides a comprehensive programme of training to build on existing skills and knowledge and develop new competencies.

Some elements of training can count towards externally-recognised qualifications, and within the movement there are also awards to recognise dedication to training and outstanding service.

The Bedfordshire Training Academies have become very successful over the past couple of years and the programme for 2019 is now available.

The modules have been designed to ensure there is very little duplication of information, therefore providing a more enjoyable learning experience.

The networking and interaction with other Adults in the county during the Academy weekends has been seen as another useful tool in the training process.

The Academies are designed to ensure that achieving the Woodbadge in the recommended 3 years a learner needs to attend just one weekend a year for three years (or two separate days per year over three years).

The Academies are also designed for Adults in Scouting to refresh their knowledge by revisiting some of the modules, this will count towards the ongoing learning programme of six hours per year, required by the Scout Association.

All in all it is a truly great experience for everyone who attends and we look forward to having the opportunity to welcome you to the Training Academies.

However, don't take my word for it, ask around, I am sure you will find those who have attended really enjoyed the experience.

In November 2018 we are running an Introduction to the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at Bromham.

If you are interested in taking this challenge please book in the usual way.

The other significant change for 2018 is the Management & Supporters programme of training. The three skills courses have been delivered this year and will also be offered in 2019 over the three training academies.

If you are in a Management or Supporters role in Scouting and require training to complete your woodbadge, these courses are for you.

They are designed to cover all aspects of being a Manager or Supporters in Scouting and fulfils the criteria as outlined by the Scout Association.

The programme is also open to those Managers and Supporters in Scouting who would like to refresh their knowledge.
